Default 91 Coupe Heater question

My car has the climate control feature, and unless I raise the temperature to above 76 degrees or higher, I get cold air from underneath the dash. I don't know what Tstat I have, I suspect it's stock. I'm scheduled to have a 180 put in this week, will the 180 Tstat make the situation worse? How do I go about resolving this problem, unless that's normal for this car.

First of all, inside temp is measured at the roof pillar and has nothing to do with the temp of the air out of the vents. A lot depends on the outside/inside temp of the car as the controller sets the position of the temp door based on these readings. If it's below 50 degrees (inside and out), then 76 should give you warm air, but it may diminish (both temp and air flow) as the inside temp rises. If it's above 70 degrees, then 76 should give you cool air. The key here though, is that heat should always come from the floor, and cool or a/c from the vents. So, if you're getting cool air from the floor, then something else may be going on, perhaps a partially plugged core. You might want to flush it by disconnecting the lines and hooking up a garden hose to it or using compressed air.

As to a 180 degree thermostat, it shouldn't make any difference as far as the heater is concerned.

Thank you for taking the time to respond; for a while there I was wondering if my post was inappropriate for this forum. I will have it flushed to see if that resolves my problem.

I have a 91 and that sounds about right for my car in the winter I keep it around 77 or so and the unit off and it will keep the car warm with out the blower on. hope this helps
