I would like to know what total timing is, and what the best way to set timing, at idle, or at certain RPM. Hopefully someone can chime in and answer my question too.

No. And because of sensor inputs, you can't check your operating "total timing" with a timing light, unless you lay under the hood while someone is making a WOT pass in your car.

i think you need a scanner of some sort???? to see what your spark advance is and then add that to base.

You need a "load" on the motor to set total timing with RPMs.

Set your base at 6*, if everything is in timing, then you should get the total timing we spoke about before.

It IS a lot, but that is what I'm running. The best way to find the optimum timing is to make a few 1/4 mile passes and observe the 1/4 mile MPH. Bump the base timing up 2* and try it again. Stop when you've found the setting that produces the best MPH. Since you're starting at 14*, you may have to test at lower base settings, also.
