ok i'm a rookie at drag racing my car. it was a blast running and the car felt like it was running well. i have got to work on my launch tho. every one sucked. i feel i can get into low 13's with a good launch. what do you pros think? heres the best run o the night.
From: St. Peters MO Sometimes you have to prove yourself by doing alot of killing or alot of dying...
nice MPH... I agree with you... getting the 60ft times down to 1.8 or lower will benefit you alot!!! I had the same problem when I went out. I had a 2.4 60ft...so don't feel bad.
Decent time but your mph is a bit low for a 6sp. I have a stock 95 coupe automatic with the 2.59 gears (wish it was 3.07!) and I got 13.4 at 102mph and ive read where autos have a better ET but the 6sp's trap a little higher most 6sp's I see on here get 104mph but like you ssaid it was your first time so thats a pretty decent number.
yea i got some mods, gonna look horrible now that it's been said. i ahve shorty headers, into 3" open exhaust from Dr gas X pipe, no smog junk. open lid, ripper shifter, and QA1 adjustable shocks, which are very cool. i had 3 people ask how much hp it took to lift my front wheels in 2nd like it did. i said it didnt, just weight transfer from the shocks. was awesome to hear that tho. so how fast should i be with the exhaust?
Launch when you see the 3rd amber and that R/T will tighten up.
Have a look at Mr. Mojo's video on drag race shifting. Will do wonders for your timeslip(as did mine), just make sure your hydraulics are in top shape.
Glad to see you're enjoying your car instead of being one of those waxers.
the QA1's were all the way low. should i tighten the reares up some? as for the lights yea i sucked, gonna try on the last amber next time. a friend told me to hold the pedal down as i shift, but my motor revs too fast and i'm scared to blow it from over revving. already had it over 6K and no rev limiter. as for the hydralics yea they're goin so i'm not goin back till they are top notch. any tips on how to replace what to replace or where to get it? any upgrades possible during this repair? and where's the mojo shifing video? i need to learn.
The other video was from a camera mounted behind him on a harness bar. You could really see the left leg and right hand move very fast. Almost violently. Slamin' the clutch pedal down and slamin' the shifter.
I have had my QA1's on back set to 8 clicks. Fronts 0.
For parts like those hydraulic master and slave cylinders and the hose, go to the forum's hookup:
Ask for Chris and mention you are a forum member.
Not really any mods to be done to the hydraulics. I do recall the hose on my 89 being a PITA to get out because it was bolted to the firewall(very difficult to access that bolt).
You may consider adjusting tire PSI. 40lb in front and as low as 25lb in back. Drop in 5 lb. increments till it hooks best for the conditions.
I did remove the passenger seat(around 40lbs), disconnect the front swaybar, and the tank is around 1/4 full. I do short burnout on street tires.
...a friend told me to hold the pedal down as i shift...
He's right, power shifting will lower your time more than $1000 worth of mods. I thought it was crazy talk until I tried it for myself, what a kick in the pants! I clutch-in right before redline and haven't had any rev limiter problems, anyone with a decently fast shift should be able to do it easily.
Don't forget to double check that the ASR is off, it will kick in between 1-2 and 2-3 (if not 3-4) if you're power shifting.
not bad times for your first shot. Seeing this just tells me how bad my tranny is. I have you by over 1.000 at the 1/8 mile mark but you have me at the end by .1 and like 5mph. My 3rd gear is BAD.
One note. If you see green - you're to late. leave when the last amber turns on. Don't wait for the burnout guy to tap your window.. Just kidding man. It's not as easy to get a good light as people think it is.

I have heard this before, i have the 3.07's a4, in the 1/8 mile i couldnt get better then an 8.9 with no engine mods, just hypertech and magnaflow exhaust, cold weather however i managed to get an 8.64 trapping 83 mph
It sounds like you really enjoyed taking your Vette down the 1/4 mile and that's the main thing.
As mentioned your ET will drop as you launch harder and get that short time close to 1.8 sec. With your current trap speed I too think you have 13.3-13.2sec potential ETs.
Trap speed does seem a little low for a lightly modded LT1, likely because you were not power shifting. I would think your potential is close to 105mph but that depends on launch weight and weather as well as shifting technique.
But ET, trap speed and RT are mechanical issues that come with time and practice. Enjoy the rush.

I was thinking you was stock. With those mods you should be able to run a good bit better time if you get more track time in that is unless something is wrong with your car. Your trap was on the low side for a stock 6sp but with your mods it's lower than it should be IMO. But i'm no track expert maybe the numbers are right on because it being a 6sp sure doesn't help.
like i said, i'm no pro. i do have a heavy car i think. i have a camber brace and a cross bar, but i did ditch all the spare tire junk. and i do think my car runs pig rich, but have no way to tell or adjust. all i know is i can get a really rich smell after stopping fast. lol would this hurt me? and i'll work on the shiftin next time out. keep the advise coming.
A good dyno shop will monitor your A/F ration during the run, that's the best way to tell if you're running rich. If you are it's not really a bad thing, your HP will suffer a little but it's better than running lean and smoking your engine.
You can mechanically lean the engine by opening the air flow (both intake and exhaust, except you've already done exhaust work).
