Performance Mods Okay, I have a stock 89 that I would like to modify and get more horses under my foot. What would you start with and add in some prices with your comments. I would like to add about 100 horses.

First you need to decide what engine characteristics you want to keep or modify, and then what youre actually willing to do to get the power. It would be much easier to go ahead and change intake/cam than try to stretch the TPI that far.

I would start with the exhaust, Hooker or TPiS headers and whatever catback you like, which should net roughly 20-25hp.

Then, you could go with Miniram or Superram. SR has the same characteristics as the TPI but stronger midrange and topend, while the MR usually gives more top end and much less low end "umph" than the stock system does. Its suited for a manual tranny as well. Then you'll need to pick a cam to go with either of the two intakes, probably the Accel 219 for SR, and ZZ409/ZZ-X for the MR.
