Find a slightly smaller than you need 12pt deep well socket and hit it on the rounded lug with a hammer and remove slowly with long breaker bar. Works like a champ most of the time.
i can't get one of em off , anybody know of a tool or a trick to get a rounded off lug nut out ? ....thanxs for any help !! ..84vette
You can also kiss your stud good bye as well.
Once you get the lug nut off. you should be able to rotate the wheel (you may have to jack it up on both sides due to the LSD). There should be enough clearance to hammer it out (yes hammer! But work your way up from a light hit to a smack). Use a stock lug nut (flat side to the hub) to fully seat a new stud. This will cost you 25-65 at a tire place per stud. The studs can be had at pepboys for about 2-5 bucks.
There is a great tool which is actually designed to do this, I know because Friday I used one to remove all four of my locking lug nuts. What you're looking for is "nut remover" for this purpose which has knurled reverse rifling on the inside face of the socket. Matco sells a nice set and so does Craftsman if you're near a Sears store. These will come in handy, don't let "nut remover" scare you!
First try to drive on a slightly smaller size on and turn. If that doesn't work, file down the rounded off lug enough to fit a smaller size on. It that doesn"t work, grind off the entire lug and replace bolt. Good luck>
