Default Chip /ECM question

How can you tell if the Chip in your ECM is going bad? Or does it ever go bad?

Best way is to post your Year and symptoms; then, someone can go through the Manual Trouble Tree Charts with you to determine the problem.

I just ended up replacing my ECM. What a pain trying to acquire one. Apparently the '92 vettes are the bastard child (I still love er though).
I guess '91 was the L98, ''92 was the LT1 Multiport, and '93 was the LT1 Sequential port. Chevy doesnt sell the ECM for '92 anymore, arrrrrgh.

Anyway, my car had numerous things going on with it:
security lite flashing
ASR service light on
Service Engine Light on
and a SYS would flash on my speedo.
Also my speedo would show 0 instead of my speed.

Took er in, they said it was the ECM, but dont stock them anymore. I said how can you charge me for something you cant fix. They said no charge. Three week later had me a new ECM.

Hope this helps

Hmm... That's the same ECM used in the 92-93 Vette and the 93 F-body, probably lots of other cars too. Advance auto parts had one in stock when I needed one a year or so ago.

AC Delco - www.acdelco.com - shows part #88999183 for the '92 and about 6 EPROMS. X-reference indicates it's for the '92 and '93 Vettes and FBodys. Find another Dealer.

Thanks..I have the same symptoms (intermitantly) except my speedo is fine.
I guess I better start looking another ECM.
Anyone here ever try a refurbished ECM?

Dayum - my car just got the same set of symptoms. Last night we were working on the chip, and the laptop computer malfunctioned while the chip was in the eprom burner. We put the chip back in the ECM, and the schiznit hit the fan. Now, the SYS message displays, the security light flashes, the speedo reads zero (as do the oil and water digital temperature readings), the 'service asr' is light, 'Service engine soon' is lit, and the car is in limp-home mode. It can't run over 3000 RPM, and the ASR isn't working. Should I be getting another ECM?
