Default Vette no go

Hi Gang

Just acquired a stock 84, with a stock 350. Nothing done recently to the car or the motor, tune up or other wise. Has 72,000 on it. Was running great. Was coming home going about 70 and all of a sudden it slowed down like I was putting the brakes on, glanced at the Mile per gallon and it dropped from like 27 to 14 just like that. I finally nursed it home, and started checking a few things. Fuel pressure was at what it is supposed to be, maybe a lb or two above, but it will not idle, or accelerate at all, I have to keep either running either to it to keep it running at all, soon as I let off the gas it stalls right now. It pops back every once in a while, skips and sputters and dies. It turns over good but will not start until you shoot some either to it.

Exhaust did not seem to be stopped up, so I dropped the converter just to be sure, that did not change any thing. I was at about a half a tank of gas, so up to this point it was running great, thinking maybe water in the gas. I wonder if it could be the module in the dist. Checked spark at one plug, good strong spark.

So come on guys put on your thinking caps, and see if you can give me some thing to shoot at. I am going to get my hands on a scanner in a few days, to see if it shows any codes. I am going to be using a AutoXray scanner, any opinions on that?

Thanks and take care..........Gunny

Hi Rohn

No I have not yet. I will and then I will post them and look up in the manual what they were. Does anything right off the top of your head fit how this thing is acting. It just hits me as being electrical. I kind of eliminated fuel, been getting the same brand same place for years, (Shell) and they have changed their tanks to the new codes a couple of years ago, and I was down to half a tank too. I believe the car has been well taken care of too, you know serviced and all that.

Thanks and take care..........Gunny
