I was wondering, whats a good temp for my oil to be running at? Its usually around 203 f. If its possible to get it to run cooler, what type of oil can i switch to? And whats the recommended oil for a 91 L98? I know the viscosity is 5 30, but, just wondering about the brand. Thanks!
Your oil temp is just fine, you don't want it to run to cool or it won't be able to purge any moisture. I thought newer vettes (mines an 87) all ran synthetic-not sure what year they started though. If it doesn't specify synthetic, I'd say use any motor oil you like. I'm not a big believer in changing from dyno to synthetics. With my limited knowledge, the only difference I can determine is with synthetics you're supposed to be able to go further in between changes (don't want to start a flame here) but since I'm an avid believer in the 3000k change-even if I were running synthetic I can't see any advantage-vs. cost. Synthetic vs. Dyno is a highly controversial subject-and this is only my opinion.

Many, so-called experts, believe that the minimum temperature you want is 195 and the ideal is 212. At 212 oil temp, the moisture boils out of the oil and is purged from the crankcase by the crankcase ventillation system.
On the LT1, the ECM will not enable the low-oil light to tell you the oil level is low unless the previous engine temperature cycle reached at least 195 and cooled to some value. So, by running an oil temperature lower than 195, you will disable the low-oil indication.
sweet, thats good to know, I think I'll switch over to a fully synthetic nex then! You guys are so awesome, i was in a chat room, and there are so many people who didn't get my question! Merry Christmas!
