Default Q about rockers

Hello, Just have a question. I am considering on changing out my rockers for a set of 1.6 roller rockers. I have a 95 with the LT1. I belive my car has the 1.5 stamped steel rockers. My question is : I have seen most people use the aluminium full roller rockers. Will stamped steel 1.6 rollers work? I have just noticed their is a big difference in price. Thanks for the replies.

Yes they should work BUT -- for the work to change them and the springs I would not waste my time if going with stamped. You will only be getting a little more lift from them. The big HP gain from the 1.6rr's is not so much from the lift gain but from the friction lost by going to rollers.

Whether they are steel and or aluminum won't change the lift at all its the ratio that does. You can use stamped steel 1.6 roller rockers (such as comp cams pro magnums or similar) with no problem. Although i believe that most steel roller rockers are forged. I ran pro-magnums on my previous setup.

I was under the impression that a spring change was not necessary if all that was changed was the 1.5 to 1.6 ratio rocker. Is a spring change necessary? I have changed out several in older sbc, and never had to change springs or pushrods.

YES a spring change is necessary. Although it technically will run with 1.6 rockers and the stock springs you will be on borrowed time if you ever drive the car hard. If you never drive the car hard then it may not be a problem, BUT if you never drive the car hard why do you need more horsepower?

It's not so much a matter of IF the stock LT1 springs will be a problem, it's a matter of when.

With no other changes other than the RRs, the LT4 springs will work nicely. Very inexpensive and will work with the LT1 retainers or you can use the LT4 ones with them.
