A week ago I was driving under normal driving conditions (cruise control set at 45), then suddenly the car started to buck. I turned off the cruise control and tried to explore the problem using the throttle and it would back fire at 25% or higher throttle. Today me and a friend were tinkering with it and reving it slightly and it started backfiring through the intake . So needless to say I turned it off right away and now I'm playing with the idea that the timing somehow skipped. Any and all imput is welcome and appreciated. My car is a 1992 lt1 with a brand new opti/plugs/wires. Is the opti adjustable like a regular distributor?
No there is no adjustment in the opti. The only way that your timing could possibly get out is if the timing chain actually skipped a tooth. Possible but not likely if you were just cruising along at 45 MPH.
When my ignition control module went out it did a bunch of really stupid crap, fortunately it died while the car was idling and not while I was out somewhere.
For something quick to try, the next time it acts up, try unplugging the MAF and see if it gets better. I have had one go bad with similar symptoms (although it did not like to idle either) and throw no codes
