Need a luggage rack. Which one?
I have a 90 rag top and I want to put a luggage rack on it. I want one like the originals. My question is
1. Is the reproductions as good as the originals?
2. Whick ones are better?
3. Who has them?
4. Should I consider any others?
Thanks

I have bought & installed 2 racks on my 93s and they both came from the same source, GM. I haven't seen any aftermarket ones for a C4.

The one in Ecklers is a GM part. They buy them from GM and are just reselling it thru the catalog. The GM ones are black powder coated aluminum with black plastic ends and rubber inserts where the load is placed. The rack you buy from Ecklers also has a template in it that marks exactly where to drill the 14 (if I remember right) 3/8" holes in the rear deck lid that the rack mounts to.

Here is one on ebay, not mine but remembered reading your thread when I ran across it. Good luck!

Stay with GM and make sure you get the template for holes. Drilling that first hole has to be scarery. Mine was done at the factory, thank goodness.

Maybe this has already been said, I didn't check
But i put one on my 88 and love it! Both functionally and visually
I got it from Ecklers, and it is OEM complete with templates for drilling holes
very simple
Very pleased

GM or Not
The rack on ebay looks original and is marked "MAGIK RAC" is this an original style.

I would stay away from it. The rack in Ecklers is the ORIGINAL GM rack. It comes in GM packaging, at least mine did
If you were to sell the car and the buyer was concerned about originality this rack {ecklers} would pass muster.
Once you drill holes in the rear deck there is know going back. If the rack isn't right, you are stuck!
I use my rack quite a bit for stuff i can't get in the back with the top down

Has anyone ever tried using suction cups — the big, strong industrial mothers — instead of drilling holes? Seems like it should work.
