Default seat back

How do I get the foam/leather part of the seat back away from the plastic shell? I have the seat out of the car, but I can't see how the upholstery comes off.

Dont want to force anything, maybe some plastic clips or something ready to break??

John

If I remember correctly there are 4 clips. Two up by where the headrest meets the backrest and two more down by the side bolster. You had to push in on the cushion and pull the cushion away from the seat frame at the same time. It's a PITA the first time, just wait till you go to put them back in, lol.

I know it's difficult to envision, but there are two clips at the top and two near the middle . The best thing I have used to undo the clips is one of those mini "crow " bars that you see in most hardware stores. The main thing the crow bars has that is useful is that it has a curved part that you can slide between the cushion and the seat back and push the rod that is embedded in the cushion out of it's clip that is attached to the seat back shell. Once you free one side , the other side will slide out. If you do the top first, it makes the middle a lot easier. If you want, you can grind a "vee" into the end of the crow bar that will engage the rod more securely. It's almost one of those things you have to see once to understand how to do. Once you do it one time , It's a snap.
Installation is hard for the middle clips if you are using new foam because it is hard to bend.
Good Luck!!!

I used a long flat head screw driver that I ground a groove in the middle of the end of the blade. You have to wrestle with the cushioning to "peel" it away from the edge of the plastic shell until you can see the clip(s). Insert the screw driver into the clip using the groove in the end of the screw driver to catch the clip and keep the screw driver from slipping and poking a hole in the leather. Push the clip toward the centerline of the seat to get it to release. It's easier if you have a helper to hold the seat still while you wrestle with it.
