Turbo placement????
1. From what I understand, placement is the key thing, most people would want the turbos in front or near the front of the engine, could you put them up beside the radiator on both sides near the headlight doors???
2. Can you put the turbo or turbos in place of the pre-cats on a L98 motor instead of the front of motor??
3. What should your compression be on the motor 9:1, 9.5:1, 10:1 for a 383 stroker motor???
4. What type of headers should you use as a starting point for the turbo tubes that connect to the turbos??
1.) placement is key because we have almost no room to put them in our cars. You can put them in front of the engine, and you can put them next to the engine, and you can put them where the cats are, but there are pros and cons to all of them in making them fit. As long as you can get the pipes in and out, and can do the same for the oil then you're good to go.
2.) yes, you just need an oil return pump.
3.) Depends on boost levels that you want to run. a little 9.5-10 would work. Alot 9.0 or lower
4.) Most likely you'll have to figure out where you want to pipes to go, after you figure out where you want to put the turbo(s) and then you can decide if you can find some headers that you can use. Most people just build some custom headers.
Definatly do some searches on some people that have done some turbo work around the forum. You'd be very suprised how many ideas you can get just from looking at something that's already been done.
I have been reading as much as seems relevent to the subject, but you know you have to be careful as to what you read as gospil. There is a guy out of my corvette club that custom built a twin turbo 427 2000 C5
(Oct.2004 vette)(Yellow one has twin turbo and nitrous). I would like to talk with a couple of people that are doing this right now so I can bounce some more ideas off of them..
