Default Five pound bottle Nitrous capacity ?

I've been wanting to install Nitrous on my '96 but didn't want to put the bottle in or under the car. I found a 5# nitrous bottle from Edelbrock that will fit where the current windshield washer bottle is. Have to remove the existing washer bottle and put a generic washer bottle up front by the coolant overflow tank. I just don't know if its worth it with a 5# bottle. Does anyone have an idea how may shots a five pound bottle will yield? Thanks.

Depends on how big of a shot you are running and how long it takes you to get from start to finish. I ran my 15# bottle with a 150hp shot and I could get about 8 quartermile runs before its done.

If you're only running a 100 shot you could probably get about 3-4 runs out of it. You might be able to fit another bottle in the storage compartement behind the pass seat and run them in parallel and get 10#'s worth.

I would reconsider using a 5 lb bottle. The reason I would go bigger is because after you use the bottle one time you will have weak pressure. When your bottle is full you will typically have a better power hit. The other concern is that if you mount your bottle under your hood you will have heating and temp issues that might become a serious concern. If you talk to people who are real big nitrous users you will find that they own anywhere from 3-20 ten lb bottles. You will hear of guys running twin bottles with a line divider to equalize pressure. You were asking how many runs can you get from a 5 lb bottle and the honest answer is it depends on how fast your car already is. If you have a 14 second car you will be running the nitrous longer than someone who has a 12 second car. It also depends on what bottle pressure you are running along with what jet size you have in the nitrous side. If you are a careful tuner you can run smaller jets in the nitrous and even smaller jets in the fuel and this will lean the amount of nitrous used yet provide really strong power...but be VERY careful not to lean it out. I had Pat Musi do a nitrous system on a Super Victor Intake for me on one of my engines and when it was shipped to me I had 4 sizes smaller fuel jets than in the nitrous side. I called them up and asked if it was a mistake and they said run it that way and see how my plugs looked. On the engine dyno I made 38 more horsepower with their nitrous setup than the jet settings recommended from NOS and the plugs looked better (cleaner) on the Musi tune up.
