When you rebuilt the '86, did your '86 have a factory roller block or was it just a single piece rear seal without the provisions for the factory rollor lifter spider? Saw this on e-bay and it claims to be out of an '86.
All 1986's had the one piece rear seal, and I am under the impression that late '86's had "roller" blocks with a flat tappet cam. Since the roller block will take the flat cam, what is the concern?
RACE ON!!!
PS. After further review... That engine HAS a roller cam. The spider wouldn't be installed, otherwise. That means, to me, that it can't be an original 1986. It could have come out of an '86, however. I still don't see the problem.

Reason: After Thought.
No problem or concerns. Just trying to determine if 86s had a roller block or not without pulling mine apart. I didnt think the '86s were rollers, but that one suggests differently, so I thought Id ask here.
I just had my 86 Iron head apart to put in new rings and it has the one piece rear seal and no provision for roller lifters. I even dropped in some roller lifters to see just how badly the would be unported. I took some measurements, I don't remember the exact number right now but it was a lot. Hope this helps.

I do know that there are flat tappet engines built in roller blocks. Maybe no '86's were built with roller blocks. I had thought some had been. In either case the photos in the eBay link were of a roller engine, as evidenced by the spider. THAT engine wasn't original in anything 1986. No need to tear into yours, because your's isn't roller cam equipped. Still, even if your engine doesn't have a roller block, there is little that won't swap from one to the other.
That's what I figured. Thanks for confirming it. I didnt feel like emailing the guy and asking him since Im not interested in his block.
For the heck of it, I emailed him anyway. The motor's from an 87, but its build date is 1986. Apparently he sells all his engines by the casting date on the block because it's easiest.
