Default Quick help- lower radiator hose installation

Are there any tricks to getting this damn thing back on? It doesn't seem like there are any good places to reach it.

Every time I work on this car, I begin to hate the Corvette engineers more and more and more...

On my 88 with Z52, i find removing the serpentine belt makes it a lot easier

Hope this helps

I've done that and am still having problems. Guess it'll just be a battle until one of us wins. Thanks much though.

Are you "soaping" the inside of the hose and the metal?

If not, liguid soap applied liberally makes it easier.

I might startt at the waterpump end and then hit the radiator end

Do you have the right hose?

Don't know what year car you have or if you have Z51/52 option vs standard. The hoses can be different and they won't fit

Match up the hoses and make sure they are the same. Lube the inside and be patient. You'll be surprised the many different angles you can come up with. I just finished mine and know the feeling.

Always make sure the replacement hose is physically the same. Removing the fan assembly and shroud helps to offer a bit more elbow room in there too.

I have an aftermarket aluminum radiator in my 86 and after fabing up a couple of hoses using a plastic coupler that I was not sure would last long term I went with one of the flex metal hose kits. It eliminated all the problems.

I did this both on the 95 and 88 and it was not a big problem. I did it from under the car using my Rino Ramps. Do you have the right hose?

Will using liquid soap as a lube harm the cooling system? Never heard of that...

I'm not sure about soap but a little antifreeze or glycerin will also act as a lube and for sure be safe.

Of course be sure to thoroughly clean the fittings on the water pump and radiator before installing the new hose. These can get rough with corrosion over time.

You really only use enough liquid soap on the tip of your finger, to lubricate the inside of the hose and the outside of the metal you are sliding over and since it stays there, I doubt if any of it enters the cooling system
