The 96 has 3.45:1. I am presuming that you have the 6speed LT4 combo since the D36 came with the autos. The 64 GS will have to be answered by someone else since that is before my realm of knowledge... my realm isn't too big if you can't tell.
I like the "number is stamped on the case" answer. But just in case: Jack up both rear wheels and put a chalk mark on the driveline. Then turn the tires one revolution and count the number of times the chalk mark came around. For example, if the rear end is 3.45:1, the mark should come around 3 full times and be about 1/2 revolution past the start , like 1/2 turn of the driveline
