Quick Wheel question...

88 - C4 - L89

My tires are 275/40/17's. (stock size)...... I am told the wheels are 17x9 1/2's. Ebay has some nice wheels, and they say they are to OEM spec., but they are 17x8 1/2's. Will my tires fit these wheels properly?

They will fit, but technically 275/40/17 should be mounted on at least a 17x9" wheel.

Personally I wouldn't do it, especially with the high availability of 17x9.5" wheels out there.

I would not put 275x40x17 on 8 1/2 rims.

When in doubt go to Tire Rack and check out the rim sizes for a given tire size.

For those rims you should use 255/45-17s, like the later C4s used on the fronts.

8.5's are a curse. Don't do it.

But, yes, 270/40s will fit fine on them, people autocross that way all the time (I'll be doing it as soon as I steal some used tires).
