Default LT4 intake on LT1?

Is there anything to be gained by putting an LT4 intake on a stock LT1? I understand the runners are bigger, but is the mouth larger as well?- what might one expect other then a pretty red intake?

94 LT1 A4

Thanks!

If you use the LT4 intake on a stock LT-1... I believe you can expect to loose horsepower. The opening is bored for the 52mm throttle body, the runners are larger and they are raised to promote better flow capabilities... which defines the problem.

The LT4 raised runner ports will not match up to an LT1 motor so you will loose all of the gains that you'd typically expect. You may even loose power overall. Add the LT4 heads and you are in business.

LT1 intakes also have 52mm TB bore openings. I was under the impression the bolt pattern/angles were different between the two intakes as well. Is that correct?

The diference is not in th ebore for the TB but rather where the intake runners set on the heads. If you set an LT1 intake on LT4 heads you will see about 1/8 gap because of the diference in the runners.

But are the bolt locations the same? What im wondering is it actually physically possible to bolt an LT4 down to LT1 heads disregarding how mismatched the runners will be?

Yes, I have seen it done, and yes the runners are off but the car will start and run. Now the otherway is a diferent ball game, the LT1 intake will not fit the LT4 heads without a gap.

I was thinking that there were some differences in them...if I go the head\intake route...It would behoove me to put in the LT4 hot cam and lifters as well...

then it would be exhaust and so on...and so on...

I raised this question once before- the LT4 "Hot Kit"

The Whole shootin' match...heads, cam, intake, rockers...I saw it for 2 grand on GM parts direct...I figure if the intake won't do anything...and I would have to change the heads...why not do everything???

I just wonder how the 4l60e would like the extra bump in HP...and if the 425HP they suggest is realistic without major exhaust (i.e. headers) and a chip burn...I read my fuel rails would fit back on...I am just not sure I want to rip a 57K fully operating LT1 apart just yet!

Decisions, decisions, decisions....
