I have an '86 convertible, 4+3. I bought it last summer. It only had 38K on it. The engine has been worked over pretty well. The current exhaust is stock with the exception of long tube headers. I am looking at replacing the mufflers with chambered muffler eliminators. Here is a link to the product. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...6NFCU64GJ46TA3
Has anyone used these? How is the performance? How noisy are they?

I didn't use the Ecklers or MAD eliminators but had a muffler shop build some straight through tubes and remove just the precats. I left a high flow main cat. This was on my '90 roadster. I don't know if I am quoting the muffler guy exactly but he said something like "Wow that sounds good. I thought it'd be a lot louder than that." It kind of sounded like a big block boat. Not too loud in the car.
Back when my LT1 engine was stock, I had a local muffler shop saw off the mufflers and weld in straight pipes with chrome tips. It sounded great - not too loud at idle, but a good roar at WOT and a nice burble upon deceleration. After I installed a Hotcam and 1.06 RR's, it was too loud even at idle. I was afraid a neighbor would key the car or break a windshield in revenge. So yesterday I had the original mufflers re-installed.
With your setup (long tubes, in particular), I would guess that eliminators might be too loud for a daily driver. YMMV.

They don't sound too bad. The ones I heard shocked me. I thought they'd be alot louder than what they were. I did not care for the tone at WOT though... It sounded like one of those hilljack ford trucks with the dual 1½" pipe exiting in the middle of the rusty bumper. that's just my opinion though. Several of the forum members are running these and very happy with them so to each is own I suppose.
One of my mufflers is shot, so I was thinking of putting dumps after the first muffler of my b&b system. I would go long tube header to cat to the first muffler and then put dumps on it. Does it look strange from the rear of the car, not to see the 4 tips?
I've heard all kinds of opinions on how elims sound and sometimes I wonder if the folks saying how they sound have actually heard them at all or are just saying what someone has told them.
I have elims on my 94 LT 1 A4 and they sound pretty good imo. I did put Hooker resonator tips on, so maybe that modified the sound somewhat. They rumble just a tad at idle and growl under hard acceleration and above 2500 RPMs. I have next to no resonance except at around 1200 RPM and it is mild. Normal freeway speeds I can talk on the phone in a normal voice.
I had Elims on my mostly stock LT1 (just shorties) and I loved the sound. It was a raspy growling sound with a lot of gurgling and popping during decelleration. I have a vert and resonance was not really a problem, especially with the top down. It was a bit much on a long trip when you want to listen to the CD or radio. I'm not real sure, but I think it reduced my low end torque, but helped the high end hp. But that's what my official BUTT_O_METER told me. I now have a B&B catback system and it's a lot quieter and the tone is much deeper and I think I got my low end torque back.

I would think that it would look funny (IMO). Send a rear view pic of your vette and I (or many of us) can Photoshop out the tips and give you an idea of what it would look like.

I bought a different brand for my 87 vert. I have the stock exhaust system except for the elims now. I love the sound with the top down. With the top up there is some annoying resonance and my wife doesn't like to ride in it then. I have read posts from others who just went to a muffler shop and had the mufflers cut off and had them weld in straight pipes with chrome tips. I would advise that you do that too as it will be much less expensive. If you don't like them after a season then go with the Magnaflow cat back system.
I think it makes my car sound like a big block 67 with side pipes.
I like the sound from the video !!
Can you comment on the inside sound at hyway speeds.??
I like it. Can easily talk on cell (seems to be a common reference) yet still enjoying the rumble. The tone is louder than the magnaflows I had on, which I now think I'm going to get rid of, but IMO, not obtrusive.
I do not own a car with elims, but the first couple C4s I drove when shopping had them. One in particular I remember. Sound at idle was amazing, I loved it, as did my Dad who was with me at the lot when I was in town. At WOT it was not anywhere as loud as a Flowmaster or similar muffler sounds. Resonance was almost not present compared to my car with 3" B&B or my old lt1 fbody with a flow and echo tips. Personally, if I was not wanting to modify my car further, I would go with muff elims. Good luck!

Loud with the top off, not bad with it on (because it's just noise, not resonance)
Sounds like a mean dirty ol pickup truck. Just mean, that's all. I can't help myself when heading through a tunnel or under an overpass to put the windows down and punch it in neutral.
