hmm, now that I have calculated the total approximate weight of the chiller assembly(full of coolant), I might put it where the turbo is, and mount the turbo to the actual rear end. It would also open up the possibilty of bruce having a rear exiting exhaust as well.

why couldn't you mount the coolant tank to the rear end? Is the weight between the tank and the turbo that much. How big of a tank are you running? It would be a shame to redo all that welding when you're so close to getting the thing started.

actually, it would only take a half hour. Metal is putty in my hands. Yo, we just got a 75 ton press at the shop. It's sooooo fun to crush the shiit out of stuff. The tank and coolant will weigh about 10 lbs more than the turbo, and it will make it easier to do the exhaust pipe and intake. It's more to do with the shape of the tank and where things have to fit for the oil system.

I like this! Great idea.

What size is the turbo?

Is the Ypipe 3.5"?

nope she's 3 inch to keep velocity high. the turbo is a Tv-85 from a detroit diesel. It has a 85mm inducer bore with a 125ish mm major dia. it will pump 130lb/min or 1300hp worth of air. As for your next question about lag with a thumper, boost threshold is determined by turbine a/r (in this case 1.39) so if it doesn't have the response we want, There is a multitude of much tighter .87 to amuch much looser 3.2 a/r. (I wonder what the hell type of application needs a 3.2 a/r?) I have a 1.23 on my 81mm thumper and I get boost by 3400, full by 4000.

well it' all moved. Hung right behind the rear end. It's gonna look cool with a 5" chrome tailpipe from a kenworth! I found the perfect Rci plastic tank to go where the storage compartment was. And it make it easier to run the a/c line back to the secondary evaporator. Just gotta cut the top out of the tank to get it (the evaporator) in there. I just hope the throttle doesn't ice up from the freezing boost temps! I have some new pics if someone can host them.

Shoot them to me in an email and I should be able to post them for you. mckevett@us.ibm.com

Just for the fun of it you should post the pics on the Camaroz28.com forced induction board with the title "STS This!" it would get alot of attention with all the sts debates going on over there right now. It would be amusing to see the replies

I'm not so sure I like the idea of a single tail pipe on a vette though, just doesn't seem right.

Here's the pics that Rick sent me:
It looks like you lost a couple of inches of ground clearance with that setup. Just be careful going over speed bumps!

Are you guys just going have one tailpipe exiting on one side? Or are you going out the center? Pics haven't come up yet so I have to ask. If you go out one side are you going to make a dummy one for the other side? It is gonna be wild to here a turbo boost from behind you.

Bruce, you're going to drag turbo on the ground when you start doing wheelies. My hat's off to you gents.. I dig the originality! Rick, what's going on with your car?
