Default 84 Dedicated Drag Car

I am presently looking at an 84 with about 200K on it to strip out and convert to a dedicated drag car. Have any of you folks ever backhalved one of these and installed a fully adjustable 4 Link? Does any one make one for these or will it have to fabricated from scratch? I have a complete narrowed 8 3/4" mopar rear with MW spool and axles I would like to use.

Thanks,

John

It exists. It can be, and has been, done.

Someone will chime in.

The 8 3/4" Mopar is a nice rear.

Go with the lightest pieces you can afford, particularly in the unsprung weight category, like wheels, slicks and rear end.

What speed/ET's are you shooting for? Overrall weight is not so critical if you do not expect to run in the 7-8's. Most of those door slammers are at around 2,000 lbs., roadsters 1,750. A powerglide is the sweatheart of transmissions: Not too expensive, and a light, powerful car does not need 3 gears.

Thanks guys I will check them out. I am planning on somewere in the high to mid 10's, so it can run Super Street. Later I would like to get it down in to the 9's for Super Gas, I probably going to go with mild steel since its a little more forgiving than Moly. I'm going to do some reading on the NCCC rules to see what class I should shoot for. I have a low 10.00 Challenger I run now but would like to have something that I can go to vette only races with. I am probably going to try and run a Glide right off the bat, I have one in my challenger and really like it. I'm planning on doing most of this myself and taking my time so it might be a while before it sees the track.

Chris Alston , in his Chassisworks catalog, says there is not much weight difference between mild steel and chromoly(seems to me like it was 20 or so pounds in a full size bracket car, like Camero), so unless a class requires chromoly, 9-10 second cars do just fine with mild steel.

Just from my own personal preference in watching, Super Gas is more fun to watch than Super Street. In a big meet, a lot of Super Gassers double their fun by running both classes by just adjusting their throttle stops.

I have a mild steel ladder bar chassis in my Challenger and it a full chassis, it works well for me although looking back I wish I would have gone with a 4 link. I agree SG is more fun to watch since they are faster, I do mostly ET racing but am going to get into Super Street next season and them move into Super Gas if I like pro tree racing. I am already running a TS so the car is setup to do it. I'm going up tomorrow to see if I can get that 84 if he wants to much I'll just keep looking since there is no real rush. I was going to call Alston tomorrow and see what they have that would work in that car. I love drag racing I just wish it wasn't so expensive to do but speed cost money.
