Default Will a Shafiroff 434 work?????

As I am pulling my motor (long drawn out process), I keep sneaking a peek at this:
http://www.shafiroff.com/434_595_engine.asp

It seems as though all these killer packages are carb only. On this engine for instance, what dows the victor jr. flow as compared to my miniram? Would I not be able to get enough air into the engine to feed this beast?? Also, these aftermarket blocks, do they have all the same locations for knock sensors etc....? Will my 2149 hookers bolt up or are the ports raised etc.. A man's gotta dream you know!!!

This car was going to get a Shafiroff 434, but he died before he had a chance to put it in.

Jerkey. The single plane you mention is what we are running on our 434s. Why not just get one from Jeb to match corky and mine?? The MR I am sure would feed it fine also, but the single plane is a much better intake overall.

Mojo. I gave some serious thought to buying that car. Actually was thinking about it again today, wondering where its at. Anyone know its location, still for sale?

Also in regards to the listed 434. I know two guys relatively close to you that could build you a better one than that for most likely less money

I particularly don't like their Rod selection and also think those HP figures they give for that compression/cam are inflated about 50-60 hp.

off of stealthram.com

looks like a victor jr runner flows 275 and an MR runner (ported to a 1206) flows 281. So the mr should keep up with nost single planes. tell them ot keep their carb and have the manifold converted when you get the motor.

It's an independant website as far as a vic jr or MR is concerned. I don't know if the numbers are good or not, ican't find a reason to think they would be WAYY out of wack. Although the math seems to be as it relates to where peak hp/tq should occur for the various manifolds. Most SR's go to 5500 at least.

Jesse, the car was bought not long after the funeral. The buyer sold the 434 and put in a 406 he had laying around. He races mostly on Sunday's but was there for a few of our challenges.

Keith told me he wanted $12,000 for the car including the 434! I wish I had the money then.

The 434 has a 2 year warranty that has to be about $2500.00 of the cost of the motor.
They will only have that hp rating using the BG demond and what they tell you need.
All said and done $12,225.00 with the sfi balancer and flywheel.
I called a few weeks ago.

Give them a call, Dave. They probably have the answer. Also, look to the right on that page you linked, they have a couple more options, a "cruise" version that will allow you to treat it like the original 350 in the car or a race version.

Warranty sounds nice after the work and problems you have gone through.

MOjo. you have to be kidding right, 12k!!! I thought it was 21k. I would have bought it in a heartbeat at 12k. Hell my dad bought a stock 87 with 15k miles on it for more than that last summer! He would have bought it also. Your kill'n me man, but guess that is what I get for not calling him directly.

I would have like to use it for a RACE car and put my current motor in it, with a shot of about 300 ponies. Ahhh man.

Are you sure it wasn't 21k, that sounds aweful low for that car and the mods that were done to it. Will the other guy sell? I know the motor 406 I think, went right before Keith passed. Very sad turn of events. Maybe that is why the price dropped so much.

Rain,

The comparison of the Single plane to the MR was most likely prior to any porting on the single plane. The intakes we are running flow well over 300 CFM. But in the bare stock form, they leave the ports very small because most guys want to be able to port match them to the heads. So they leave a bunch of meat in there to be taken out.

The MR is a good intake, but the single plane intakes are hard to beat. They have optimum runner legths at ~6" and can still support huge HP numbers.

Jerky, I IMed you back with more details.
