Explain this SOTP crap to me
Quick background - bought a '93 vert 2 1/2 years ago. Completely stock A4 with 2.59 rear-end. Added a chip and TB bypass. It came with Dunlops with a lot of tread but rather hard. The car would just smoke the tires and even fishtail when it hit second. I put on new Goodyear GS-D3 and then could not even chirp them. From reading the forum, the general concensus was that new gears would give me the biggest SOTP difference. So I swithced to 3.54's and added EM longtubes, RT cats, and a 3" B&B cat-back. I was rather dissapointed. It sounded nicer and had abit more power, but no SOTP difference. Last month I took it in for warranty work. They paid for new rear wheel bearings and replaced a leaky intake manifold gasket. While it was in there, I had them put on a 52mm TB and one of those Vortec cold air induction systems. The car absolutely screams now. It's like I added 100 HP. I don't understand. I know the TB and air cleaner couldn't have had that big a difference. What's the deal?

if the intake was leaky, it could have been sucking up air, or oil. that would definately throw off the calibration.
or (and i'm not saying you're dumb or anything) the air filter or intake may have been plugged up or dirty all along
