When I parked the car tonight, I noticed the heater core is leaking. Mine is an 88 L98 with some minor mods. I have read on the forum that the heater core is a PITA to repair, but in the interest of saving money, I thought I would poll the members who might have gone before me. What is the verdict. Is it worth doing yorself, or just bite the bullet and take it to the dealer. All opinions would be appreciated.
A time consuming but a very doable job. I replaced the one in my 85 back in July. It took about 6 hours to do it. The Haynes manual has a very acurate description of what to do. I followed that procedure and all went well. However, you do not have to remove the dash top. There is one screw on the top of the core cover that is a b____ to get at. Once you get that screw, all else is rather easy. Also, be very, very careful with that little thing that holds the linkage if you car has that. Good luck!!!!!!!!! Get the Haynes manual and follw those instructions. That's what I did.

I agree it can be done and not too bad. Do yourself a favor and remove the pass seat for room. Also, if you have ECC take note of the position of the rod setting for the blend door before removing it, If it's off the door won't be accurate with the temp inside. Mike...........
Thanks everybody. Consensus is that I do it myself. I have the GM service manual, and in some respects don't believe it is as clear as some of the other manuals. Removing the seat sounds like a good idea. Oh well. Everybody knows where I will be on New Years Day. Happy New Years everybody!
