My guess: running rich, time for a new O2 sensor(s).

Your 89 only has one O2 sensor and it can be found on the drivers side exhaust pipe. To check or change the sensor, you really need to raise the car and do this from the bottom. If you have the original O2 sensor in the car....it is time for a new one!

You MAY want to try some Sea Foam also, great for removing carbon build up. When I've use it (many times) I put 1/2 in fuel tank and suck the other thru vacumn line into engine-I don't put it into motor oil as suggested. You need to keep the RPMs up when doing it and it just might throw a code 32-seems the 02 sensor get a temporary misting. When you're done just disconnect battery and it should clear the code.
Don't get worried about all the smoke you see comming out-it's supposed to, and will clear up. Good Luck.
