I'm in the process of assembling a mild LT1 for our '96 coupe W/auto.
What I need is input on where to purchase a set of pistons and rings(.030 over).
I want to retain the approx. same CR. I believe that I want "hypereutectic" style pistons. There will not be any power adders such as nitroxide, or super charging. Also I would like input on the recommended camshaft. I have long tube headers, ported LT1 heads, and stock converter. I have a "LT4 Hot Cam", but I'm conserned about it working with a stock or near stock converter. I believe that I may need to select another camshaft. This Vette is a weekend cruiser and my wife drives it some.
Thank you!

Since you're not doing any power adders, why not just order some factory 30 over LT1 pistons?

The GM ZZ3 cam or the Comp Cam 304 are better w/stock TC, with your mods I'm guessing you'd be at ~330RWHP and lots of low end torque. I'd also add some GMPP roller rockers and depending on the final cam lift, pick some good valve springs. Nice thing about the ZZ3/304 cam is the max lift is 0.510" (1.5 ratio rockers), with the low lift and a redline below 6K you should be able to use the LT4 springs.
On the rings:
there are sets that are "pre-gapped" and there are sets that need to be "filed-to-fit".
If you do get the "pre-gapped", check them in the cylinder bores anyway. No need to skip this important step. Takes a half hour at most
Sometimes they are off by quite abit. Have seen this a number of times.
If gap is too tight, you can always file them, but if too wide, consider sending them back and getting ones to your satisfaction.
For my 383 LT1 rebuild I wanted to achive a mild build like yourself.. I am very pleased with the hyperutectic pistons I selected that were manufactured by Keith Black (KB).. They are the Silverlight (or something like that) line and work great.. they offer the stock 10.4:1 ratio and the 10.8:1 ratio pistons (which are the ones I selected).
I have a cam similar to the LT4 hot cam, stock heads, stock exhaust (exp. no cats) and a stock converter..

Speed Pro makes a nice piston for a street engine.
If you want something a little lighter and stronger, SRPs are another alternative. Here's a pic of the SRPs in my engine:
