After finding coolant in my oil, I realized it was time to change the intake and head gaskets on my car to see what the cause was. The intake manifold gasket was in pieces on both sides. The front part was completely corroded.
Just to check, I took the drivers side header off. That gasket was perfectly fine. There was no corrosion or leakage going on there at all.
I'm having problems removing the passengers side exhaust manifold, and because of it, I am wondering if it even worthwhile. If the drivers side head gasket was fine, than the passenger should be as well, right?
Might as well do it if you're already there. It wouldn't hurt to give both heads a quick resurface to ensure they are perfectly flat before bolting them back on. If your vette ever leaked coolant again, you'll always wonder if it was the head gasket you didn't remove. That's just me though.
I took it off- it suprisingly took much less time than expected. Looking at the gasket, there may have been one small problem area. Guess it was a good thing. Cheers.
