Default VATS question

I have an '87 that will not start all the time. I think its the problem with the key not being read. So until I can find the time to replace the sensor on the ignition switch I'm going to bypass the VATS. I checked the key with an ohm meeter I it registers 680 ohms or GM VATS code 03. I found some instructions that say that all I need to do is connect a 1/4 watt resistor into the harness after I disconect the sensor. I have 1/2 watt resistors in my spare parts bin. Will these work or will I fry the VATS module with the wrong resistor size of 1/2 watt?

Thanks

hi

you can use any resistor with 680 ohms, regardless the number of watts..

the "wattage" of resistors means, how many power the resistor can "heat" to the environment...

in your case, the current flowing is near zero, so you can use them without any thoughts!!

You got good advice from corvette90! Arrange to have your ignition tumbler replaced, it has new contacts for the pellet. 99% of thefts are done by bashing the column and jumping the ignition, don't permanently bypass your VATS!

Thanks for the quick response.
This will be a temporary fix until I can order the parts & replace.
