This is odd.
If I leave my `87 sit for a couple of weeks without driving it, the idle goes crazy , when I start it in the morning. I wanted to take it to work yesterday, because it was nice out. It started fine, but when I went in to get my jacket, the wife said " sounds like someone is revving your car! ". Sure enough I go outside & the car`s idle is going way up, & then slowing way down. I blipped the throttle with the linkage, & it settled down. For the rest of the day it was fine. This is the second time this has happned in the space of a month. I checked for a vacuum leak, & took the TB off & cleaned it. This time I did get a " check Engine " light, but I have to find the code reader----I put the damn thing around here somewhere---
Sounds like a dirty idle air control motor, it is in the passenger side bottom of the throttle body if i remember correctly from my 87', it can get gummed up and sticky and cause this exact problem, had to clean mine once or twice while i had the car, its been over a yr so perhaps someone will chime in with more specific instructions
