Default Cut lid/Filter

Will just a cut lid and a stock airfilter do anything in terms of performance??? For a 96 LT1?

Being new to the " Corvette" world myself I have done alot of reading here. Cutting the lid on the air box is free HP. Stock filter is not. Air in/ air out is Good. I did mine on my 88 but have a K&N filter. It worked for me. But they also don't make aftermarket air boxes for my car YET..
If you read through some of the postings you will find tons of info and it's all free and you will find some free HP also... Good luck

I've not heard of anyone doing a cut lid + stock filter before, so I don't know... I have an open lid and a K&N, myself. I found the filter on eBay for $20, so I couldn't pass it up. It's pretty much accepted that a *NEW* paper filter will flow as well as a clean K&N, but a dirty paper filter won't flow nearly as well as a dirty K&N (which flows as well as a clean one...). For $20, it's the last air filter I'll ever have to buy for the 'Vette. That, alone, is good enough for me. If I get 3-5hp out of it, that's a bonus...

The cut lid won't do anything for performance, nor will adding a K&N to the cut lid.

I have hundreds of runs to back me up on this. An open lid just means you get your filter dirtier a lot quicker.

Supposedly on the L98 cars it's makes some differences, but on the LT1 it makes no difference at all.

On the LT1, probably not. Your intake tract is well-designed and not restricted.

On the L98, yes.

It is debatable whether it is beneficial or not... I only challenge with this statement. If you stick a straw in your mouth and try to inhale only through a small straw... it will be difficult. If you increase the diameter of the straw to twice the size and repeat, you will get more air the second time around. For what it's worth, it is a free mod so I did it even if it doesn't help... it doesn't hurt so why not...

i agree with the statement that
with keeping the stock filter not much happens
but k an n yes!
i think vader is correct too
it dont help much on a stock lt1 but if you are running say like a 383 or a modified lt1 then u need more air with the combo of lts and free flow mufflers then itll make a difference

Take a good look at the LT1 setup. There is a rubber strip that seals off at the top. I had measured to openings on both type of LT1 air cleaner lids(there are two different ones), they are roughly the same despite the difference in the openings.

Bottom line is, on a stock LT1 it makes no difference if you have a cut lid or not and the K&N makes no difference. The advantage to the K&N is the million mile warranty. The paper ones you have to replace every so often.

Trust me on this, on a stock LT1 there is no difference.

Did I mention there is no difference?

BTW, there is no difference.

You know what else? There is no difference.

I can't see the difference which leads me to believe there is no difference.

Can I stress enough that there is no difference?

So let me make sure I understand you correctly. On an LT1, there is no difference?

I added a cut lid and a K & N on my 1996 and found no difference. Thats just my reflections. I guess each vette might be a little different.

Maybe there is no difference with the LT1 but with my L98 there was marked improvement.

In my mind the debate ended when I did the dyno test. It shows a solid horsepower gain on my heads / cam car, shows virtually nothing on a stock car. End of story, for the LT1 anyway.
