Default AHHH! Code 36! What to do?

Interesting code though...my car RAN perfectly fine. I got gas, started it back up, the SES light came on...came home, checked the code, got Code 36...started the car back up...no SES light. It's pretty cold outside, so maybe something got on the MAF wire, and it just burned it off, or what?

That's a code for the MAF burn-off circuit.

You can check it by looking into the MAF as someone turns off the ignition. The sensor wires should glow bright red for 2sec after shut off. If not, replace the burn-off relay.

i got the same code thats why my car been a dog on the bottom end and running super rich. thought i fixed it when i changed the 02 sensor out and on the low end could spin the DR's over at will thru 2nd gear then went back to being a dog and threw the ses light again and went back to square 1. finally got my buddy over with his snap on scanner and came up code 36. i was told either the MAF itself or the MAF relays.

if so where are these at? where is the MAF burn off circuit?

will be checking this out later this week.

thanks!

Mike they are on the fire wall drivers side
If you look behind the battery their should be 2 and closer to the engine that should be the blower high speed relay.
On my 86 that is where they are.

thanks man! and thanks for posting over on CAC too about this

i did the screw driver tap test on the MAF and all seemed good. haven't pulled it yet to see if it's doing the burn cycle yet. been super busy getting my new business up and going but hopefully in a few weeks i can get this taken care of.

where do i buy the relays from and how much?

i'm also thinking about going with that adjustable MAF that i seen from one of the distributors.
thanks!
