How would a 96' auto LT1 vette, do against a 98' LS1 auto vette?
At a drag-strip who would win?? The 96' has the 3.07 axle gears?
Both are 100% stock..

With comparable drivers a 98 would probably be approximately .5 second (+ or -) quicker than an LT-1. An LT-4 will run neck and neck with an LS-1.
I am sure others may have more specific time examples to share too, but a half a second is a decent place to start.
c5=.5
z06=1 sec
c6=.7-.9
faster than 1996 lt1 c4
agian all that is stock!
so after like headers mufflers and bolt ons that everyone does you are neck ad neck with c5 or faster!
now lt4 will acctually beat a c5...it is rumored!!!

What's with all the comparisons between different cars vs. the C4? Early C5s aren't that great in terms of ¼ mile performance... but if you stink at driving it will toast you every time.
I have seen lightly modded LT1 Camaro's and Trans Ams beat an LS1 vette... the Z06 is another story. I believe Mr. Mojo has even stomped a few LS1's...
Hell even if the LS1 cars were far superior to ours... I still bought mine because I liked it more. I could have bought a C5, but I don't like them.
here it goes again...sorry for those who have heard this before.
It will be anyones race I have basically your car (mines a 95 also has the 3.07s) it can turn 13.2's i nthe 1/4 and I had 99 coupe before my 95 vert the best it ever got was a 13.4 (it did have the sucky 2.73 gears tho)
but still even if that 98 has 3.15s it should be anyones race.
if your car is a strong runner with low miles it should come in at atleast 13.5 in the 1/4 and with practice maybe 13.2 - 13.3
so go for it you won't be put to shame even if he does win.
The typical C4 LT1 was rated at mid 13s while the C5 LS1 ran low 13s (300chp vs 345chp and the C5 was ~50lbs lighter). So, on the average with both cars geared the same, the C5 should take the win stripe by about ~.2-.3sec.
Gears and driving could make a difference in any particular heads up race.
Was this a hypothetical question or are you contemplating an "event"?
Last year in March right after I bought my all stock 92 I was up in Chicago with a full tank of gas and a passenger and stomped all over a Zo6. I guess he couldn't drive the car to it's potential or it was a fake Zo6 or something ... ? It's all about the driver
And as far as skill, that probably has more to do with it than anything. I've beaten Honda S2000's in my daily driver Celica because the guy kept bouncing off the limiter. I wouldn't really brag about it as a real win, because the guy was obviously a muppet. But it did happen.
