88 L98 with d-port heads.
When I look on the summit website, it offers three choices for available header gaskets for my application, round, square and d-port. Naturally I assume it's the d-port gasket, but when I look at the description it mentions the LT1, not the L98 as the application for the d-port gasket.
Guy who sold me the headers used square port fel-pro #1404 gaskets, but I want to use aluminum or copper. Any recommendations or part numbers? I want to install my lingenfelter LT's this week.
Thanks

Hi John,
I used some copper ones made by SCE, but had a slight leak with them.
Someone else here said they used the percy aluminum ones with better results.
I love that they are re-usable.

Hey Paul how's it going?
Thanks for the replies guys.
Paul, what was the port shape on the gaskets you used? round, square, or the d-port?
Bogus,
I tried looking on the felpro and Mr. Gasket sites for the correct gasket to use, but could not come up with anything useful at either of those sites. So I'm still stuck in the same place, what port shape on the gasket.
Thanks for your help guys.

Sounds like copper ones could not be as good as I had heard......someone encouraged me to use the SCE gaskets......now I am not so sure.....maybe I'll stick to the Felpro recommended by EM..
well maybe i can shed some light as i am doing this as we speak.. i am trying to get my lingenfelter headers on my 89 vert and asked the same question.. didn't get any concrette advice ... so i ordered all 3 set from summit..after laying them out on the header and the head itself i have found the round port to be the best suited.. it seems to have the most sealing surface and covers all the holes yet doesn't block off the head port... i used earl aluminum gaskets part 29dc3bi put the drivers side onlast night but am in a holding pattern as i need longer bolts.. make sure you get 1" at least the 3/4 inch header bolts which are common are not long enough.. so iam at a stopping point again.. hope this helps a bit

I don't have headers on my Vette but when I had cars with headers I always bought nothing but Fel-Pro gaskets for them. This takes some time but it works. Take the new gaskets and soak them in water overnight, then when you install them put blue loctite on the bolts and let them sit overnight before firing the engine. I never had a header leak and the bolts stayed tight this way.

First, you may want to call Lingenfelter to see of they have any recommendations for their headers. As stated the important thing is that there is gasket material between where the headers bear against the head and that there isn't header material blocking the port. Overpriced gaskets and fasteners aren't necessary. The biggest reason header gaskets start to leak shortly after the install, is the bolts loosening. The bolts, generally don't loosen because they need to be locked, but just the opposite. With the headers compressing the gasket and a heat cycle or two, the compressed, gaskets stay compressed. This takes the tension off of the bolts and makes them "loose". Once loose, they are free to loosen further, but that is of little consequence. They need to be tight to prevent hot gases from escaping and burning the gasket. The key, is to re tighten after each heat cycle for at least the first few times. Then daily. After a few daily tightenings, it will soon become apparent that the daily tightenings are no longer necessary. Then maybe once a week. Soon you will be able to forget them. An expensive fancy fastener that won't turn is going to loosen anyhow due to the gasket compression. A decent mid priced gasket (composition), the longest, standard header bolt that won't bottom and a little care is all you need.
RACE ON!!!
this is why i am gonna try the earls gaskets ..they are supposed to be non retorque type.. like a head gaskets are ... they keep a prload on the bolts so as not to loosen and leak .. as far as cost i didn't think 37 bucks for a set of gaskets was all that much unless you are comparing them to 7 dollar paper garbage gaskets.. if these gaskets last onlt 2 years i woudl be pleased for 37 bucks.. but judging from thequality i am gonna bet they are going to last alot longer ..
Get the Percy's Seal-4-Good aluminum header gaskets. I've used Felpro, copper, and Percy's header gaskets. By far, the Percy's seal best, and are reusable.

Yeah right!Anyways, I bought the Percy's aluminum ones, the port size is considerably bigger than my heads and headers. Round port also. They seem to be doing their job though... maybe a little more turbulence with the larger port size though.
I am installing Hookers Shorties on my 94 lt1 soon and I need both header gaskets for the heads and the bottom ones, and bolts.
Sounds like Percy's the way to go and 1" bolts.
Who Percey and how do I buy some?

thank you for all your input guys. I was most interested in the Percy's as that's what I've always used before, and they offer a roundport in the deadsoft aluminum.
I've used Percy's aluminum gaskets on my chevelle, bronco and pickup with no leaks and no loose header bolts.
