Replaced the wiper motor on my 88 today. Had a napa rebuild in it. the wipers were only going up about 3 inches and then back down. Thinking it was broken replaced it. WRONG.. Still doing the same thing. Checked all the stupid things like it the arm stripped, bolts tight, ect..
but still doing the same. I do think they "did" work, maybe.
So little help here again. In the haynes book page 12-13. (22.4)The crank arm. Does this crank arm go 360 deg when working? My motor is turning but the arm is just going side to side. I would think that crank bolt would turn 360.
Could I have a bad control board on the wiper?
Did you just replace the motor or the whole thing including the circuit board? I had intermittent problems on my '85 where sometimes my wipers would only work on high and not shut off. I replaced the whole thing with one I got off of ebay. I think I had a bad park switch in the wiper transmission. I would bet it is in the electronics, not the mechanics. Try unplugging and replugging the wires back in to see if that does anything.
I took it apart and the park switch is not releasing. On the right side (drivers side) of the wiper motor there is a 3 wire plug. this controls the park switch. Gray-white-gray. On the bench if I put power to the center "white" it would release the park. In the car pluged in I'm getting 12v on the outside 2 (grays) nothing to the white (center)causing it not to release.
I know whats wrong but lost on why it's wrong. HELP ME... It's raining...
The wiper motor is coming on but the 2 gray and 1 Orange seem to work the park part of this whole deal. That does not seem to be working. seems like the wires are wrong.
looks like this;
Gray-A (hot) Orange-B (Nothing) Gray-C ( Hot from A when pluged in and on)
Should be :
Gray-A ( -) Orange-B (12v) Gray-C (-) I think.
All I know is the park will not release the wiper.
I had the same problem with mine... the wipers would cycle in and out of the park position. The problem was a bad park switch. The factory manual has a list of common wiper problems and their likely causes. A faulty park switch is listed as the cause of wipers cycling in and out of the park position. After replacing the park switch my problems were solved.

Yes, inside the motor but easy to get at once you remove the black plastic cover. It's a square part with copper wire windings held in place by one hex-head screw. Not many people realize it's available by itself from GM so many people replace the whole motor when all they really need is the park switch.
