Man when it rains it pours -- first the '96 and the starter now the '94 vert and the brakes. Brakes seem to be locked up -- go around the block and you smell hot brakes. Had to flatbed it to the shop -- when it got there it worked fine Brought it back home and bingo problem is back. Pedal is hard -- guessing a problem w/ master cylinder. Thoughts or tests we could try? Thanks!
A hard pedal is a sign that the vacuum booster may be on the way out, but that by itself should not cause the brakes to get hot. What does the fluid look like in the MC reservoir? If it's black, I would begin by doing a complete flush of the system. You could have some sort of debris in the fluid that is blocking the release of the MC piston effectively keeping line pressure up.
Was one caliper hotter than any of the others? If so, it maybe a psiton sticking in a claiper, if it seemed like all of them were hotter than normal, it could be the MC.
Use a turkey baster (go to a grocery store to get one, DO NO use the wife's or S/O's one for this. There will be consequences!) Suck all of the fluid from the MC reservoir and wipe out the inside as best as you can. Refill with fresh fluid and then bleed the brakes until the fluid comes out clean, this should take about a quart to do. A good DOT3 or DOT4 fluid works fine. Castrol LMA is a good reasonably priced fluid.
Will look when I get back... a side note: the car does not pull to one side or the other, so it would seem we have a lockup that happens is pairs.(I guess)
pheeewwww, i think there are a couple of things you could check, here are a few suggestions. Handbrake cable is activating rear brakes, the MC main seals are getting stuck inside MC. Pistons stuck in calipers, callipers are'nt moving back on there pins?
I hope these suggestions help.
