Can it be routed and setup to use a MAF type setup. I ask because all the new Superchargers sold in SUmmit and the like are for MAP sensor type TPI's only.
Yup. You'll need to change to SD for that supercharger.
Only way to keep your MAF setup is to totally change the plumbing
of the supercharger outlet. Also just FYI that won't bolt onto your corvette. That's for an F-body. Your car's accessories and mountings are slightly different, aswell as the amount of room in you rengine compartment, and the bracket most likely won't fit either.. Just FYI..
Yes you can run a supercharger with a maf system ...you just vent the surge valve before the maf so your not metering air the engine isn't seeing ...they acually work better than the map........I've ran both.
Would the same style supercharger be run? Do you know of anyone that makes brackets or setups that will fit the Corvette setup? Currently, this corvette has a nonfunctioning smog pump (basically a free spinning pulley) and I assume this is where the Supercharger would fit best.
I don't know alot about paxton superchargers........what year vett ? there's a parts house in reno nev. that sells paxton brackets post this in forsed induction section...........but I see you don't have much time to make your decision..........type in paxton on a search engine a call some paxton supplier to see.........if it's an old head unit they use ball bearings and are not good.
Thanks for the input. I am not too worried about obtaining that particular Supercharger. Id rather be sure of the setup I am getting and take my time with it. Its for an 85 Vette. Not my car actually but a friends. I have the same engine and TPI system as he does in a 66 truck that I will eventually supercharge as well. Just obtaining info as much as I can.
Here is a Paxton MAF installed on my 88.
So yes you can use MAF with a little reprogramming.
Look here for parts..... http://www.carrollsupercharging.com/
I also have a MAF supercharged setup. There are some pics on my webpage- Cardomain.com/id/sbnova . Like mentioned above, you MUST vent the blow off valve before the MAF, or else the car runs pig rich!
Our '85 vettes with the low 9-9.5:1 compression, smog heads are actually perfect for supercharging. Also it helps that we have stock forged internals, so that's one less thing to worry about also.
I had a vortech setup on my car for a bit and was going to set it up the same way that picture had the MAF kind of wedged/plumped between the blower and the intake, but have sold it before even starting the engine after the installation as I got a great offer for it.
I bought my setup used- I practically stole it. My kit was for a 90-92 SD with twin intercoolers, and it took some mods to make it all fit my 85. I didnt realize just how different those year radiator assemblies are.
Most companies *say* you can run as-is when using their kits. The fact is, you should have it tuned properly with a wide band O2, and if larger injectors are required then the WB will show it. There is alot of debate on the use of FMU's, but you can read up on that in the FI/Nitrous section.
