After this series of posts, Chris contacted me and said that the car was running but that he would not be able to tune it, because he no longer had LT1 tuning software.
WOW...$13,000 and not even tuned. You would think they would cough up the $450 for LT1 edit just for your car. If all else fails you might want to contact www.ccstuning.com they are in PFLUGERVILLE
Hey Charles, if you dont find a tuner in Austin, I have a really good one right here in New Braunfels. Just 35mins south of you on I35. He did wonders with my motor, as you can see from my sig, very experienced(lots of LT1, L98,LS1 and ZR1's) and owns a ZR1 to boot. PM me if and when you need him...Good luck with the rest of your motor. Sorry you are having so many problems.
Isn't Chris at SD a member of this forum? I find it very discouraging that he hasn't, at least, replied to this thread.
Chris was very involved with the forum and very responsive when he first started out. After a few problems, he just disappeared and is nearly impossible to get ahold of and doesn't return calls. I've spent close to $9000 down there myself and have had a few issues as well. Right now I'm sitting with a car that's down because I've probably got a burnt valve. At this point, I'm not pointing fingers, but I found it very difficult trying to get ahold of them let alone trying to discuss the problem. Because of that, I've decided to take my business else where. Good luck!
I can't believe that car is still there. It is black, right? I saw it there a long time ago when I went and visited SD. You might as well pick it up and take it down to New Braunfels. Too bad Jayson at MTI doesn't do LT's anymore as I would say take it to him. Chris is a very nice guy and I am sorry to see this happen but damn this is a little too much.
Well I'm having a little trouble with my seacrh, but I see in his profile that Chris was active as of yesterday, at least he is viewing the forum. His last post was 10/10/04. His last visit was yesterday. So he's out there.
WOW-you bargained for something they said they could deliver, and now after $13,000 they say they can't, and want to give you something less! You my friend have the patience of Jobe! I would want the motor out-a full refund plus.
I find it really sad that a business destroys itself by lack of customer relations, lack of communications and just hopes you'll go away. And to add salt to the wound-they offer you this. I'd be in my attorneys office so fast my head would be spinning.
Go get your car. This is BS at is worst. Find a new shop in Austin or in San Antonio. They are just giving you the run around and will never be finished with your car. Good luck.
F*** that! GO GET YOUR CAR. Eight (8) months. Some one is blowing more than smoke up the cr*** of your a$$.
I would get a full refund and take my business elsewhere. If they don't agree to do that I'd sue. You deserve what you were promised and the time lost for shotty work. You paid for repairs that were their fault; if they sell you an engine they are responsible if something goes wrong with it. I'm amazed shops like this stay in business with lousy work and even worse customer service
Speed Demon finally agreed to tune the motor if I would provide them with
a copy of LT1 edit, the cost of which they would deduct from what I owe
them for an opti, plus $50 for dyno time. They owe me a dyno tune, but I
accepted this offer.
Chris put the car on the dyno a week ago Friday and then called me with "bad news": The motor sprung a major oil leak on the dyno. If I had driven it home without dyno testing, as they wanted, the same failure would probably have happened on the road, and possibly much worse, depending on how quickly the oil pressure dropped.
Chris said that he would fix the cause of the leak and that the car would be ready by Saturday (today) with "110%" certainty; and in fact it would be ready by (last) Tuesday.
On Thursday, I called Chris and left a message saying that I would be at his shop at noon on Saturday to pick up the car, and to let me know if there was any chance that the car would not be ready. I did not hear from him, so I called several times until Friday afternoon, and each time left a message to the same effect.
Today I drove a rental car from Austin to SD and found the shop closed. I checked on and off until about 3:00 and then gave up. In effort to track Chris down before leaving Houston, I called Houston Performance Motorsports, (because Chris uses their dyno), to see if Chris was there. The fellow I spoke to said that he was trying to find Chris as well, because about week ago Chris had left a car on his dyno and had not returned to pick it up. It was, of course, mine.
