New to the corvette world- my 96 vette is flashing a SYS on the display to the left of fuel gauge. Anyone have any ideas what for? It does it every couple of seconds. I bought the car used and don't know much about it. I also have tried the turning wheel method to determine it is a Z51- does this mean is has the larger brakes? Any help appreciated!
Welcome.
I dont' have a 96 but an earlier model so I can't answer about any real error codes......but I do know that removing the stock Bose radio will cause the sys light to flash. Does it have the stock radio?
The SYS code is usually a hint you have a weak or low battery. This is the first place to check. Your vette (1996) has 13" brakes in the front and 12" rotors in the rear. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help guys! I just replaced the battery with an Optima red top- the car has a aftermarket cd player so this should be the problem. Any way to correct the flashing light other than replacing the practically new cd player? Anyone used the power slot rotors or any after market up grade kit?
You may want to post a seperate thread asking about the brakes, most people will mouseover your thread topic, say: "ah, another dead battery SYS thread" and move on.
If there's a mod that can be done to a corvette, chances are, someone here has screwed it up and will gladly tell you what not to do. The wealth of knowledge here scares me sometimes.

The search will fight with you, but once you figure it out it is really nice... You may find your stereo answer there.
I just got the SYS error on my 96 also. The car had not been started in almost a month so I'm sure the battery was a bit low. I let it idle and warmed it up to temp. The SYS error is still there. Anyone know how to clear the error?
