Hi everyone,Iam kind of new here. Just wanted to know, I have a stock 1984 with (stock)tires & rims. The tire size is 225/50/16 and wanted to know if this is the widest tire i could put on the rear using the stock rims. Also does anyone know of a polisher for these rims on Long Island ,NY
That is not the stock size tire. All C4's that came with 16" wheels, including the '84, came with P255/50R16 tires. Which is the widest 16" tire I am aware of.

All I know is don't try to put 245/50/16 on it ... they will fit but the rear wheels are wider than the front ones and it looks like crap... spend the extra money up front and save some time.... You can find the 245's for like 60 bucks a tire... 255's are at least 100 bucks for kuhmo's ... trust me the 245's look bad dont' use them....
Is it norm. for the one tires to be kicked in about 2in on the pass side (rear) some people say it's a vette thing. Is this true??
I wouldn't think it is "normal", but based on posts on this forum, it isn't uncommon. *I* personally, have not noticed the problem. I haven't followed those threads closely enough to understand the situation and to know if it is truly normal, or what causes it and how to deal with it. Sorry.
In 1984 and maybe for a year or two later, the car came, standard, with four, 16" x 8.5" wheels. Only the Z51 option had the 9.5" rear wheels.
RACE ON!!!
Thanks for that info... I've only had the car for 4 months and didn't realize it was a z51 option... I suspected it but now I know for sure after the wheel thing... Thanks for the infor...

and if you have the rear 9.5" tires, they should be able to handle 275's if your looking for a wider tire...

Wheels are easily changed. My NON-Z51 has 16" x 8.5" fronts with 16" x 9.5" rear wheels, now. To confirm, you can check the number of turns the steering wheel makes from lock to lock and sway bar sizes.

I'm not familiar with those. Are they common? Any special brands?
I don't think they were changed just because I bought the car from the second owner and the first owner only put 12,000 miles on it the first 13 years of it's life... It's only got 55k on it now at 20 years old.. I think my wife will be the last owner of the car though... I think I'm going to have to bury her in it... She's as much of a gear head as we are....
