I recently purchased a new set of ZR-1 style wheels for my '94. They are 17X9.5 on all four corners w/56mm backspacing. My car currently has the stock 8.5 and 9.5 wheels, with 255/45 front and 285/40 rear.
I know that the grand sport ran a 9.5 inch wheel with a 275/40 on the front, but an 11 inch wheel on the back.
Has anyone ever run the 9.5 wheels on all four corners, and if so, which tire size did you use? Unfortunately, my rear tires are new, just don't know why they wear out so fast!
For best handling with a 9 1/2" wheel go the way GM went when they wanted max handling - a 275x40x17. It will handle better than the slightly larger 285x40x17 due to the rim being slightly more over the thread, less side wall flex, lower center of gravity, less unsprung weight.

I agree, but if your current tires are in good condition just use them until it's time to replace them and then go with 275/40/17 all around. By the way that's the size that GM put on the Z07 Corvettes. Another advantage is that you'll be able to rotate your tires to get longer life out of them.
I have 9.5 in. ZR1's on all four with 275/40's. I bought the Yokohama AVS ES 100's....Great tire, quiet, good bite at the strip, and neat tread pattern....Also with 275/40's on all four You can rotate them front to back.

just curious why did they go to a slightly larger rear tire?
