Thanks

Not into a C4 but the f-body guys do this quite a bit. here is a link to quite a bit of info. I think this would be a great swap. I did the LT1 into my 84 and loved it andthe LS1 is an even better motor. S%P sells a motor mount kit for $85 and the rest you will need to find out. Good luck

Yeah, I remember the guy said it wasn't that difficult. I'nm trying to remember his username...

I am curious about the bellhousing bolt patterns, if they are the same. It think they might be, I'm pretty sure the trucks use tranny's from days of ole.

The search function here, well.....

I say go for it and get the best of both worlds-The character of the C4, and the brute force of the LS1 without buying a 55k car!

I want to, I just have to see what big issues exist. I'm already running DFI 7 so the computer problem is covered.

Yeah...

Putting a modern motor in when this one gets to be toast is very inticing...

I know we had a member a while back who had done the conversion. I can't recall his username but he had a silver early C4 (with Z06 rims I think).

This info isn't concrete but from what I recall you can't use the ZF box and have to use the tranny that came with the LS-X motor.

Definitely an interesting conversion.

BTW: I haven't been too active here for quite a while, do you still have the Z06?

Figured if you were looking for a motor..... I ran across in the C5 WTB/Sale section.

I have a complete 1998 Ls1 motor for sale from pcm to pan. It has 85K. I am Asking $2300. It includes EVERYTHING. Not like some motors that are missing stuff. It has everything to hook up and run! $2300

I have a complete 2000 Ls1 motor for sale from pcm to pan. It has 41K. I am Asking $2700. It includes EVERYTHING, (excpet MAF). It has everything to hook up and run! $2700

THESE ARE AS COMPLETE AS THEY COME!!!!!

Yes, I just did the 383 and bought a Z06.

The 383 is incredible, the low end grunt, top end pull and the sound just put a smile on my face. The problem with it is that the wife and kids want no part of it, in the words of my youngest son "it's too scary".

The Z06 is an incredible car, my kids like going for rides, because it's tame, I enjoy it because it's very fast and handles incredible, and because it's tame.

I can't keep both, so I had a quick thought of selling the 383, and the z06 and put in a LSx motor and a magna charger, I already had the computer to deal with it. But if this requires a tranny swap, driveshaft, etc.. it's a bigger undertaking than I'm willing to do.

2002 Silver Z06 for sale, 37k miles, GM warranty through 76k and 4 years. Low $30's

1992 383 LT1 for sale (maybe) 34k, best of everything 425rwhp ~$22k

I would think if you want ot keep the stroker and sell the Z)6 the easist way to make people happy (and you wallet full) would be to tame the stroker.. the things that people notice the most are the idle smoothness and the exhaust note..

I would recommend installing a factory exhaust on it (without the converters of course) which could be had in the for sale section for very little.. and I would swap out the big cam with something a bit milder.. to improve idle charecteristics.. then you could take the extra $$ and get yourself a supercharger for it to make up for the lost hp and then some..

just a though..

It idles great, it's a bit loud though. I don't think I can supercharge it, 11:1 compression, although it's completely forged.

I'm looking to save money (buy some landscaping and a boat) and you have me adding a supercharger

You may try posting your specific question on LS1tech.com in the hybrids section. I know there was at least one person who had done this swap into an L98 car. As for what I have found out so far:

-the motor mounts are different
-LS1 and LT1 trannies are not compatible
-The accesories mount on the bottom of the engine and would require custom or aftermarket brackets to work (specifically AC, alternator)
-the thermostat housing points out to the side of the car
-of course there are differences in the computer

Thats all I can recall right off hand. I hope this helps.

the bellhousing patterns are identical save for one omitted bolt. the real difference is that there is a 0.400" length disparity in the crank. (i believe it's shorter) But I know the later aluminum headed truck 6.0's are on par. It can be done, you just need to make friends with a machinist.
