alt conn kills motor?
I have a 1990 Vette and when the alternator harness is plugged in the car dies. I replaced the alternator and same problem exists. Can anyone help?

Well thats pretty weird and this is the only thing I can think of. The alternator regulator gets its power through the 10 amp gages fuse as does a lot of other circuits. You might have a poor gages fuse connection that opens when the alternator field current is being drawn when you plug in the alternator and this shuts power off of spark, ECM, or injectors to shut off the engine. Measure the voltage on the brown (on my 87) wire on the alternator plug(goes to gages fuse) and see if it drops to zero when you plug the alternator in (ign on). Also, measure the battery terminal voltage when you plug the alternator in, if it drops significantly you might have a poor battery cable connection. If so, clean your battery cable lugs and the battery terminals and replace the cables.

Thanks and I will try. The terminals are clean and the btry cable is new. Gages fuse? Is this a simple 10 amp fuse in the fuse box or is it a relay somewhere?
