i'm almost certain thats next to replace, i smell coolant, , i changed the overflow bottle, mine was old and leaked, i'm not loosing water, and i'm pretty positive my heater core is fine, no steam on windows when running defroster, i'm positive the water pumps not leaking or dripping either,
i'm interested in the big aluminium radiator, no plastic reservoir stuff, who makes em and how much? 1990 l98 convertible, also best outta box fit etc etc. TIA everyone
any group deals happenning on these that we know of?
I went to www.autoradiatorsdirect.com and got a new radiator delivered to my door for $140. No budget for an improved radiator, but it gets the job done.
From: Boston, Dallas, Detroit, SoCal, back to Boston MA
After blowing out both plastic side tanks at a road course, I installed a BeCool, and I love it.
If I was shopping for a new one though, I'd get one with a built in engine oil cooler, makes hooking one up a lot simpler, and then you don't have to worry about putting in and engine oil thermostat.

I am confident you will find ours to be the best fit and priced competitively. You do have to trim a little of the rubber cushions but that's just to get the thicker core in there. Everyone's model will require the plastic fan shroud to be trimmed or shimmed back for the thicker core as well.
For those of you that have a 1984-89, we make a Direct Fit second to none. With this one we matched the mounting exactly, and even include custom rubber mounts. You change nothing! DeWitts 84-89 model

I had no problems with my Dewitt rad in my 85, I trimmed the rubbers and installed it in in less than 1 hour. Runs nice and cool!

Very nice! Now, if only there were a group purchase for those, with a ten percent discount and free shipping.....I'd be the first one to sign up!

You could count me in also, I'm currently in the market for a new one. The one I have has the plastic sides and sprung a very small leak at the seam. Stop leak has stopped it for now, but need a new one soon.
There are several good aftermarket larger radiators -- and there is the original size.
But, I differ on how I select what I want -- once again, in my opinion, bigger is not necessarily better. It depends what you want to do with it and your symptoms.
If you have an engine that runs too hot -- does it run too hot at speed/high rpm/heavy load, or at low speed in town? Keep in mind, you are dumpiing the most heat into a radiator when you are applying the most power -- at speed, or under a heavy load. So, if it doesn't overheat at speed/heavy load, the cooling capacity of your radiator is sufficient and bigger may not be what you want.
A radiator with a smaller tube cross section creates more coolant turbulence; and, at idle, this turbulence causes more coolant molecules to come in contact with the interior surface of the tube to allow the heat to conduct to the exterior. So, a radiator that is too large may cause the coolant, at idle, to move lazily through the tubes and not conduct as much heat through to the outside. The result may not be what you intended.
If you go to a larger tube radiator, you may have to use a higher volume water pump to create the needed turbulence at idle.
If your engine overheats at idle but is OK at speed or heavy load, it may be insufficient coolant turbulence or insufficient air flow at idle.
If your engine spends most of the time under heavy load, bigger may be what you want. If your engine spends most of its time lazily going down the highway or in traffic, stock (with more airflow and turbulence) may be what you want.

i just put in an aluminum radiator on my 94 c4.....purchased from eckler's....i think the same one is sold at midamerica......but was less expensive than the one from ecklers. the mechanic that put in said it looked great....there were a few mods that he did to get it installed but evidently, alum radiators are used extensively in the performance world, ......alum has greater thermal efficiency......and i have already noticed cooler, more stable temps....

Heyy, three's a "group" right? How bout the group purchase request?
If so, I bet even more would like to get in on the deal!!

That is why the factory radiator core is aluminum.
That may very well be the best, high capacity, all aluminum radiator for our cars, yet. That is what *I* would use, if I needed it, too. Be advised that Tom DeWitt is a forum sponsor and member.
