Default Timing Gear Marks?

Ok I replaced the gear drive timing chain I just put in with the original double chain gear. Knock sensor problems. But on the cam gear there are 3 different marks a dot a trianglr and a square. On the crank gear just a dot. If I remember right you line it up dot to dot correct? But what is throwing me is the tip of the triangle is pointing to the teeth of the gear like a arrow. Any help?

If your came is designed to run straight up (no advance, no retard) put it on the dot.

The "original" isn't a double row roller chain. Which key way did you use for the crankshaft key? Once you determine the correct marks for YOUR installation, lining the marks up "dot to dot", that is the dot on the crank sprocket at 12:00 o'clock and the correct marking on the cam sprocket for the key way you used, at 6:00 o'clock, the camshaft will be in the correct position for the engine to be at TDC for the number 6 cylinder. Be aware of that if you have to reinstall the distributor.

RACE ON!!!

OH MAN! I was affraid of this! This was the timing chain that was in it when I went to the gear drive and then back. I have a ZZ9 cam would anyone know what the heck I should do now or just stay dot to dot? I dont think there is a original part in this car any more. But hey now that it is all apart maybe now I will know.

hey bud .. timing gears news:
your zz9 cam alright has advance or retard built into it.. sooo you really dont want to advance unlkess you are checking clearances..

on true rolling timing chain CLoves part# 9-3145 the dot on the cam shaft gear is down 90 degrees and the crankshaft gear must point up at 90 degrees..be carefully to align dots use a straight edge..

on the crank gear there are three notches, every notice that they are not alike?? retard is the square, factory is round (use this one), and advance pointed..always have the TDC on # 1...

ps: expect snail mail soon
