Default Pully elimination question...

Accidentally put this in C4 part section, moved it to here...

Since this forum has helped me so much with my Vette problems, I'd like some info on a related winter project I'm starting. I'm Installing an '88 L98 into a hotrod and I would like to clean-up the outward appearance of it as much as possible. I would like to remove the AIR pump and plumbing and put a small K&N type air filter on the T.B.
I would like to retain a serpentine belt system, mainly for appearance but don't really want to add eliminator pullies if I don't have to.
The engine will remain totally stock, so I was wondering if I could do this and how it would effect a computer-controlled engine. Where also can I find a belt to fit the new arrangement?
Thanks. I hope this is not too Unvette-specific to be on this forum.

All that is possible, but what are you going to do about the MAF sensor, without it, your engine will run like sh**.

removing entire emission system is possible, rerouting the belt impossible, as vader said your ecm will notice the maf gone and you will not like it...

That's exactly what I was wondering. How do these guys hook up a filter right on the throttle body without having problems. Is this something I should ask the wiring harness maker when I decide whose harness I'll use?

Its because the models they have run a MAP sensor, which can be just stuck into the filter base on the TB (or wherever they stick it). This is 90-91 L98s and then the 92-93 LT1s.

To do it you would have to convert to the later computer and use a MAP sensor.

NO, why do want change pulleys? that is not the problem.

first, the belt is routed to that all components turn the right way. rerouting the belt will not accomplish this.
second should you remove the air pump, the belt comes around the altenator is too steep of an angle to clear other cmnponents creating interferance..i have researched to it's end and found no way of fitting/rerouting the dam belt when removing the air pump...
so this is why the air pump eliminator was born.

once the air pump is gone and the ARP is installed, the emissions system can be removed. starting with the air valve/switches/attached hoses etc. egr under the plentum, egr sensor under the distubutor and plugged with block off plates , any vaccum lines attached to them and plugged. you may also remove the pipes that are attached to the headers or plug them.
there will no codes if a lower thermostat is used. ther is a fix for this as well,, ask 65z01 for details , he help me with that.

hope this will help

I've seen show cars with L98's configured in the way you want to run it.
