I have been running my car for the last 1500 mi w/o one. I have seen the one from painless for 100 bucks, that is a bit pricey. What car, maybe a camaro, could I get a sesor from that would work. I have an 85 computer. I guess I am asking can I go to a parts store and get one from a TPI Camaro?
I don't think your gonna find them just anywhere. Call Chris @ Superior Chevy, 1.800.728.8267.
Also, you will have to tell him the gear you are running. I don't think the computer is all that relavent.
Why would I need to tell him what gear I am running? Also I have a speedo and odo, but this is an 80 Vetteand it has a mechanical speedo, where as the 85 Vette (which is the computer I am using) has a digital speedo, right? So I am going to need a VSS out of a TPI camaro or Firebird, right?
Thanks again
edited to say: it kicks code 24 but I really don't have any major driveability issues, considering the computer is untuned.
I am not running the digital dash, just the stock speedo out of my 80 Vette.
edited to say: Where does the VSS Attach to? The tranny of the speedometer? The one that I saw from Painless Wiring attached to the back of the speedometer and then the speedo cable attached to it. Is the stock ones like this or do they attach to the tranny?

Ahhh, now I understand what you’re doing. You have a very unique problem here, but I think I may have the answer.
On one side you need an electric signal to assure the ECM everything is within check, and on the other side you need the mechanical cable to make the in-dash Speedo work.
You’re going to need two parts here. First, if your 700R4 doesn’t have a mechanical output from the trans you’ll need to find one.
Second, JTR offers a device that will hook up to your mechanical output from the 700 and send the electrical signal to the ECU while retaining the mechanical throughput to the Speedo.
I dont know about the 85 ECM but I do know that the LT1 ECM can be programed to ignore the VSS. I did an LT1 swap and never had the vss hooked up to my ECM. Since you have a mechanical speedo you will need to add a reluctor ring (With the correct pps) and drill another hole in the tail housing if you want both the speedo and the ECM to work. The problem I had is the older VSS signal is not the same PPS as the new 100,000 pps VSS units that the LT1 uses. Except for the fans turning off at a certian mph the ECM can work without the VSS signal.
