Default Higher max rpm

Can I raise the rev limiter on a LT1 engine with roller rockers to the same as the LT4?

my instincts tell me no...

Mainly because the LT4 has lighter valves and stronger springs.. I think if you changed the valve springs out you would be able to spin it higher..

If you're running LT4 springs I wouldn't raise it very far for the reasons mentioned above. If you're running overkill on the springs you can easily turn the stock bottom end to 6500 RPM's.

Well, you can raise the limit of an LT4 to 7000 and the engine will live. I wouldn't try that on an LT1 stock bottom end.

I raised the limiter on my LT1 to 6400 and even with the Hot Cam kit the power is falling off there. No need to go higher than that.

6250 here, I'm running stock springs, HD springs are next upgrade...

I agree, even supercharged the peak power starts to fall off at about 6100 or so ....

It´s because it shouldn´t hit the rev limiter when shifting 1-2. I don´t know if it will, haven´t driving it yet with the new gears, just wondering if the engine can take it.

My dyno tuner told me to raise the limiter and then shift below it. He doesn't like what happens with the fuel starvation limiter method.

He won't take an engine near the limit on a dyno pull.

This thing is freaking awesome. I'm going to swap the 750 Q-Jet for a 770 Holley Avenger and then come the Long tubes. It won't be long until the rearend and tranny explode. It is not a tire roaster from take off. But if you floor it at anything over 10 mph it will give you a headache when your head hits the seat. It idles very rough and is a little shy on vacuum when in gear at a light, but still streetable.

I am having a slight traction problem when the 4 barrel kicks in and I have wornout a rear set of tires in 3,000 miles (Don't tell Lisa).

I am also in hopes of rebuilding the bottom end so that I can turn higher RPM's, I am shooting for 7,000 RPM reliability.

I will get it on a dyno this Spring and post the results.

Thanks for asking.

Not to dispute this as many people have done this with great success,

BUT

When GM made the LT4 they made improvements in the "bottom end" over the LT1 in order to raise the rev limit to 6300....improved crank, piston rings, ....

An LT4 is more than an LT1 with a head job....top end work
