Default 1st Gear Growl...Cure?

I think my car has 1st gear growl. When I am in the parking lot of say Kroger, at low speed when you let out the clutch and don't give the car an "above average" amount of accelration...it growls loud. Is there a cure?

While on the subject:

What is the quietest aftermarket exhaust? B&B? I heard that it had fitmet problems?

How does the B&B on the ZR1 sound compared to the Route 66 for the C5?

I think the first gear teeth are cut in a way that will produce a growl

My understanding is the 92 and up ZF's I think have the quieter gears and were cut differently and gave up approximately 50 ft lbs of torque but unless the LT5 was highly modified it would never make a difference.

correct. the 90-92 zf boxes are WAY more noisey in the lower gears, kinda like the old muncie rock crushers due to the angle of the gear teeth. made em stronger though.

have someone experienced with the early zfs have a listen, my bet is that the box is just fine. they are noisey buggers.

I just don't recall my other 91 sounding like that...my 94 was real quiet. My current car sounds almost IDENTICAL to a C5 6 speed when you don't give it enough gas on a 1st gear launch...I mean Identical.

Are you sure it's not a heat shield or cat resonating? Mine sounded similar until I found that the driver's side manifold heat shield resonated at 1,600-1,800rpm when lugging the engine.

It may be that. My mechanic said the exhaust was done and cracked. If it will stop raining, I am going to get that fixed first and hope that is the problem. I will keep everyone in the know.
