The right-hand headlight on my Z has started to bind on retraction. Has happened twice and almost jambs when 1/2 way closed. Seems like it needs lubrication. What type of oil should be used for these; WD-40, Silicone spray, 3 in 1, key lock oil, white grease????
If you cant see a physical spot the light is contacting when closing or opening, I would think headlight bushings or gear going bad. I doubt any external lube would fix it.
Get it out. If you recently purchased the car, look to see if someone has had the bucket off to replace the gear gel with delrin bushings.
They could have messed it up when re-installing the pin.
That may not be the case. You can do the fix with limited mechanical knowledge. Lift the hood, have someone cycle the lights. Watch the area alongside the motor for any binding on opening and closing.
For lubrication, you may want to use white lithium grease as any oils or WD40 will only attract dust.
More info will get you more answers here.

You may want to see if it is hitting the one of the lines near the coolant overflow tank. I moved one of my lines just a little while cleaning the engine compartment and the headlight started hitting it when rotating.

When I pulled mine out to replace the plastic bushings, they caught on the headlight wires on the driver's side. I had to move them around a bit to avoid them hanging up there.
You can try the lights with the hood up or popped to see if they work fine then. If they do, it could be mechanical interference under the hood.
